Parrearra is an island. The Mooloolah River forms its western edge and Nicklin Way, running between Mooloolaba and Minyama, its northern boundary, while the Parrearra and Wyuna canals wrap around the rest, together known unofficially as Parrearra Lake. There is no access from Nicklin Way, so the main way in is Kawana Way, with bridges over the Wyuna Canal to Warana.
The name was one of several proposed in 1967 by the Kawana Waters developer Alfred Grant, and refers to a length of river. Parrearra was named as a town that year and redesignated as a suburb in 1989. It is residential in character, and the 2021 Census counted 4,661 people living here, up from 4,468 in 2016.
Two-bedroom homes made up 26.2% of occupied dwellings, against 17.5% across the Sunshine Coast, and the Census recorded 10.3% of all private dwellings as empty on the night.
