Most of Parrearra’s detached housing went up between the late 1980s and the 2000s: four bedrooms, a double garage, often a pool, on blocks of 600 to 800 square metres. The robe recesses are a reasonable size. The problem is the fit-out. A single rail wastes the bottom half of every cavity, high fixed shelves are unusable for a nine-year-old, and one linen cupboard cannot hold three sets of bedding, school uniforms, towels and beach gear at once.
What that produces is displacement rather than failure. Belongings migrate to the garage floor, the hallway and the spare room, and a well-planned four-bedroom home starts functioning like a smaller one. Can we do the house in stages?
That is how most Parrearra projects run. We measure everything in one visit and quote each room as its own line, so you can start with the main bedroom and linen press this year and add the kids’ rooms and laundry later. We record the board, edging and hardware specification so stage two matches stage one exactly.
What is the best value change in a four-bedroom home?
Nine times out of ten it is the linen press. Replacing four fixed shelves with adjustable shelving and pull-out baskets roughly doubles usable capacity in the same cavity, and it takes the pressure off every bedroom robe in the house at once.
Will a wardrobe survive three kids?
With the right components, yes. We use metal drawer sides rather than board boxes, full-extension runners rated for real loads, and interlocked carcasses that cannot rack when a drawer is pulled hard. Soft-close hardware also means doors are not slammed into the frame twice a day.
How do you design a robe a child can actually use?
We set the hanging rail low enough for them to reach, put frequently used clothing in drawers at hip height rather than on high shelves, and leave the top section for seasonal storage that an adult handles. Adjustable shelving means the layout moves up as they grow rather than being rebuilt.
Can you make the garage usable again?
Often, and it is the most satisfying part of a whole-house review. Full-height cabinetry near the internal door catches sports gear, pool equipment and helmets on the way in. Intercepting it at the entry is what stops it reaching the hallway floor.
How long will the whole project take?
Manufacturing runs four to six weeks from approved design and deposit, regardless of how many rooms are in the batch, because everything is cut together at Warana. Installation is generally one day per robe, with the laundry and linen press usually fitting into the same run.
Do you clean up and remove the old cabinetry?
Yes. The old shelving and doors go with us, and the rooms are left swept. On a multi-room job we sequence the work so the house stays liveable, we do not open up four bedrooms at once.
